SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Support the organization’s Grinding department in training operations of complex medical devices, special and standard tool grinding and sharpening through new development projects as well as optimization of existing tools.  Work in cross functional teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure production objectives are met; including but not limited to programming and set-up for new product development, optimization of current tools throughput, research and implementation of new tooling and process technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Must be able to setup and operate a tool grinding machine. The setup consists of replacing and fine-tuning collets, insert clamping, V-block and steady rest adjustment including setting up the automatic tool loader.
• Must be able to program cutting tools on a PC-based tool design software including program and wheel pack management. Cutting tools include endmills, drills, boring bars, indexable inserts and more. Must have the ability to read, interpret and adjust programs, as necessary.
• Must be able to understand the selection and purpose of diamond and CBN grinding wheels, including using and operating a manual wheel dressing machine, a wheel balancer and a wheel presenter.
• Must be able to apply proper cutting geometry to all cutting tools and instruments specific to material cut, appropriate clearances, lands, peripheral drops, Radii resizing, tool/instruments speeds, tool/instruments cutting direction and exiting. This cutting geometry will maximize cutting tool life and finishes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be familiar with cutting tools and with the operation of CNC machine tools. Training will be provided in the actual use of the 6-axis tool grinder and the wheel dresser.

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent directly transferrable work experience (Manufacturing or Engineering discipline and Experience in tool grinding or machining is preferred).

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience of programming in a medical device manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of NC Code, Tooling, and Manufacturing Process.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Tool Grinding Software)
• Blueprint reading and knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Effective communication to all levels of internal and external customers
• Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve complex problems.
