Job Application: Tool Grinding Machinist

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Reporting to Department Manager, this position will have direct responsibility for the setup and manufacture of components within a machining department. TOMZ manufactures parts via high precision metal machining, finishing, assembly, and anodization processes for medical devices. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain the ISO 13485 standards documentation, setup and operate equipment, and perform visual and dimensional inspections on machined components.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Must be able to setup and operate a tool grinding machine. The setup consists of replacing and fine-tuning collets, insert clamping, V-block, and steady rest adjustment including setting up the automatic tool loader. 
• Must be able to download and edit programs for cutting tools on a PC-based tool design software including program and wheel pack management. Cutting tools include endmills, drills, boring bars, indexable inserts, and more. Must have the ability to read, interpret and adjust programs, as necessary.
• Must be able to understand the selection and purpose of diamond and CBN grinding wheels, including using and operating a manual wheel dressing machine, a wheel balancer, and a wheel presetter.
• Must be able to understand proper cutting geometry for all cutting tools and instruments specific to material cut, appropriate clearances, lands, peripheral drops, radii resizing, tool/instruments speeds, tool/instruments cutting direction, and exiting. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be familiar with cutting tools and with the operation of CNC machine tools and specifically grinders. Training will be provided in the actual use of the 6-axis tool grinder and the wheel dresser.

Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent directly transferrable work experience. Experience in tool grinding or machining is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a precision manufacturing environment, preferably medical device manufacturing or similar.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of NC Code, Tooling, and Manufacturing Process.
• Blueprint reading and knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Effective communication to all levels of internal and external customers.
• Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve complex problems.Physical Demands
